Conversation Power

Conversation… It’s a lost art. In her book, The Six Conversations, Heather Holleman pointedly describes our current cultural climate. She says, “The communication climate for so many has turned to suspicion, shame, hatred, and mockery. It’s a world of being canceled and unfriended if you say the wrong thing.” What’s the way out? Genuine, loving conversation.

Quote

A real conversation always contains an invitation. You are inviting another person to reveal herself or himself to you, to tell you who they are or what they want.

Questions

  • What could you do to increase your conversational skills?
  • How can you build up an arsenal of questions to begin a conversation?

Heather Holleman suggests that building our conversational muscle involves adopting four new mindsets: (1) Being curious. (2) Believing the best. (3) Expressing concern, and (4) Sharing your life. Imagine how our world could change if we began to do just that.
